Background | Social Association for Fundamental Empowerment (SAFE) is one of the most mentionable Non-governments, Non-profitable and Non-political volunteer social development organization established in 2001 with the initiative of a group of educated social activist with an aim to improve socio-economic status of the underprivileged peoples of the society. It is founded on a set of believes concerning the basic problems of the rural people as well as the country like very high density of population, corruption, lack of transparency, illiteracy, ill health, unemployment, oppression/ civic inertia & environmental hazards, inequality in wealth distribution hampering the overall developments of the country.
Mymensingh region consist of four zillas (Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Netrakona and Sherpur) is the poor districts and flash flood and disaster prone area in Bangladesh. More than half of the population in this region lives below poverty line. They are real backward in terms of all the social and human development indicators i.e. Health, Nutrition, Education, Human Rights and democracy. They are much more leg behind than other district because of flash flood, drought, unemployment, low literacy rate etc. But there are many opportunities over here such as substantial agricultural products, water land, human resources, fish culture so on. SAFE believes that the vast majority of the people of Bangladesh are poor & powerless not for the lack of resources but lack or no access of the poor & powerless to the means of productive resources.
The development philosophy of SAFE is essentially humanist, holistic and people-centered approach that aim to empowering people through develop their potential inherent powers (intellectual, productive, physical & political/organizing) to enable them to take responsibility of their self-reliance and sustainable development. SAFE believes on non-directive, bottom up, integrated and participatory development frame work and acts as a catalyst with its concerned people.
In early 2001, SAFE was registered under NGO Affairs Bureau. From inception to till date, SAFE has gained wide range of working experience in implementing several development programs in association with the various Government Directorate, National and International donor agencies. In the mean time, SAFE has gained membership of various National and International development Networks.

It is founded on a set of believes concerning the basic problems of the rural people like-illiteracy, ill health, unemployment, oppression/ civic inertia & environmental hazards. SAFE believes that peoples have their inherent power to solve their own problems, but they suffer from lack of opportunity, resources & civic rights. From inception to till date, SAFE has been working for the betterment of the socio-economic status as well as for ensuring healthier environment. In the mean time, SAFE has accomplished several projects like Non-formal education, Health-nutrition & Family planning, Agricultural Technology Transfer, Non-Formal Primary Education, Livelihood Training, Life Skills Education, Awareness campaign etc.
As its contribution towards the national development, SAFE was awarded with registration by two distinct Ministry of the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh namely NGO Affairs Bureau & Directorate of Social Services. | ||

Goal | To promote the socio-economic status of the rural poor and underprivileged people, emphasizing the women, disabled, children, transsexual and also empowering them through undertaking appropriate and sustainable program. | ||
Objectives | As per approved constitution, SAFE sated the following objectives to achieve the goal:
¨ To make the target people self-reliant in all needs and necessities of human life through various efforts and activities. ¨ To improve economic conditions of target people through employment and income generating activities. ¨ To ensure health conditions of target population by providing health and sanitation education and disease treatment services. ¨ To create human and social values in target population through awareness raising education and motivation. ¨ To build up capacity of the target population to identify and analyses different socio-economic issues and problems concerning them and how to solve those. ¨ Creation of employment opportunities through skill development and credit support program for income-generation. ¨ Ensuring Literacy, Continuing Education (CE) for those, who did not have the opportunities to be enrolled, drop outs and peoples with special needs. ¨ Awareness building regarding legal aid, democracy, good governances, health care, sanitation, gender issues, safe sex and HIV AIDs. ¨ Natural disaster management, food security, advocacy, research and technology improvement. ¨ Strengthening local government, monitoring, evaluation, civil society initiatives, community based organization. ¨ Organize local initiatives for production of goods and services for income generation. ¨ Organize cultural activities and sport events. |
