Background of Establishment:

REDA is the abbreviation of Rural Economic Development Association. It’s literary meaning “Organization for welfare and empowerment of human being”. It is fully free from political, religious or ethnic bias activities. It is a non-government Socio-Economic Development Organization, which came into existence on the 1^st January 1983 with the active initiative of a dedicated social worker, educationist and philanthropist, headed by Alhaj             Prof. Md. Mojibur Rahman. The organization started it’s various development activities in Mymensingh Sadar Upazilla under the district Mymensingh, Bangladesh with a view to improve the socio-economic condition of the rural poor families especially ultra poor.

2. Legal Status :

For the legalization of program activities REDA got registered with:-

1985. I) Department of Social Service under the Ministry of Social Welfare Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, vide Registration No- M-0435, dated: 04-08-1985.

1999. II) NGO Affairs Bureau under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Registration No- 1387, dated: 30-05-1999.

III) Micro Credit Regulatory Authority vide No- 292.

3. Vision Statement of REDA:

REDA intend “To established a society free from exploitation, oppression and depravation where every individual will be able to live in a peace and harmony with genuine human relation.”

4. Mission Statement of REDA:

REDA follows non-directive, bottom-up and participatory development approach for the effective implementation of its programs. It emphasizes on people’s participation in need assessment, planning, implementation and decision-making process for making the program social accepted, people’s oriented and sustainable. REDA acts as a facilitator to ensure people’s active and equal participation in development process.

5. Goal of REDA :

Improve Socio Economic Status of the target families through development of Agro based livelihood, Income Generation Activities, Primary Health Care (Maternal, Child Health & Family Planning) Education, Disaster Mitigation, Increase research & training facilities and information and Development of Good Governance by Effective Participation of the community people within REDA working areas.

6. Program Activities of REDA:

with active initiatives of the Programme staffs headed by the Executive Director, REDA has been implementing various development activities with the felt need of the local rural people since 1983. REDA started its development activities through need assessment of the target community. Ongoing programming activity of REDA are as follows:

1. i) Group Formation.
2. ii) Organize Weekly Group Meeting.

iii) Group Based Need Assessment.

1. iv) Saving Mobilizations.
2. v) Smallholder Agricultural Improvement Project SAIP (a. Agricultural Support to the Members, b. Beneficiaries Development Training, c. Micro Credit Supports (as RLF) for Income Generation Activities).
3. vi) Education.

vii) Primary Health Care.

viii) Sanitation Project.

1. ix) Human Rights Preservation.
2. x) Popular Theatre Programme &
3. xi) Bangladesh Rural Water Supply Programme Project (BRWSPP).
